WEEKLY WISDOM 25/08/2014

A blessing in the world:
reverence to your mother.
A blessing: reverence to your father as well.
A blessing in the world:
reverence to a contemplative.
A blessing: reverence for a brahmin, too.

A blessing into old age is virtue.
A blessing: conviction established.
A blessing: discernment attained.
The non-doing of evil things is
a blessing.

WEEKLY WISDOM 18/08/2014

A head of gray hairs
Doesn’t mean one’s an elder.
Advanced in years,
One’s called an old fool.

But one in whom there is
Truth, restraint,
Rectitude, gentleness,
Self-control–
He’s called an elder,
His impurities disgorged,
Enlightened.

WEEKLY WISDOM 11/08/2014

Guard against anger
erupting in mind;
in mind, be restrained.
Having abandoned mental misconduct,
live conducting yourself well
in mind.

Those restrained in body
–the enlightened–
restrained in speech & in mind
–enlightened–
are the ones whose restraint is secure.

– Dhammpada [17]

WEEKLY WISDOM 04/08/2014

Reality as it is becomes the right view of the meditator. Thinking of it as it is becomes the right thought. Awareness of it as it is becomes the right awareness. Concentration on it as it is becomes the right concentration. Actions of the body and speech are then aligned to reality as it is. In this way the meditator develops and is fulfilled.

– Majjhima Nikaya
